Gherkins.... Colditz.... & Last of the Summer Wine

After just missing out on points in the wet at Assen (by less than 0.6sec) we had less than a week before the next opportunity at the Eurospeedway (Lausitz) in Germany.

But rather than head straight there - a bit of time away from the paddock was required. On route to Lausitz just south of Berlin is a big natural park/nature reserve area, which looked to fit the bill for a bit of R&R.

Found a campsite for the truck, sun was out, got some training on my cycle etc and all was fine…

Some of the villages in the area were… well not backward but “different”?

Many of which favoured cobbled roads over tarmac, which the truck didn’t seem to like much. The houses had figures made from straw or something hanging from the doors just like the ones in the Blair Witch Project & there were pumpkins everywhere? Bit early for Halloween me thinks.
With signs for the up and coming Gherkin Day (yep a day devoted to pickled gherkins?) I wasn’t too sad when we left.

The race at Lausitz was very disappointing. I’d done many laps on both soft & hard rear tyres in practice, but the hard tyre only lasted 8 or 9 laps in the race before it went completely!? So bad I had to pit to swap tyres! The reason? I'm still waiting to be told that… Not good.

On the way home we popped into Colditz for some lunch and a nosey round. Its currently being turned into a youth hostel & you’ll be glad to hear we escaped without a problem. I think security must have backed off a bit since the war as no one even asked us for the entry fee.

Anything else new?? When out running recently I jogged straight through the set of “Last of the Summerwine” There was an old tractor smoking etc and the film crew didn’t look too happy about a sweaty bike racer trotting through the set. Not a Winnebago in site either. Just two of the actors stuffed in the back of a ford fiesta – that’s showbiz eh!
